Illinois VINE is the statewide custody and criminal-case notification service. The Illinois Attorney General describes it as free, secure, and confidential. Its interfaces can receive events from county jail booking systems, IDOC, certain Illinois Department of Human Services custody, and circuit clerks. Greene County's Sheriff links directly to VINE even though the county publishes no local recent-release search.
VINE has two jobs. It can show the status currently reported for one person, and it can register a user for a later custody or case event. It is not a browseable list of everyone released today, and it is not a lasting release archive. A released result means the reporting source sent that custody change. It does not rule out transfer, another agency's hold, post-release supervision, or custody in a system outside VINE.
Search a Greene County Inmate

Compare the reporting agency, available identifier, case information, and status before selecting a result. Do not treat a name match as identity proof.

The Greene County jail and IDOC are distinct. A county jail result concerns the sheriff's custody feed. An IDOC result concerns state corrections. A state prison profile may provide fields beyond VINE, including offender status, custody location, parole date, and projected discharge date. Those belong to the IDOC source. A projected date remains an estimate, while an actual release event reflects a reported change. Neither one alone proves that all holds or sentences have ended.

IDOC can help with registration, but the department says it does not administer VINE and cannot access information a user supplies to the notification service.
Register Greene County Release Alerts

The telephone PIN stops the repeated-call cycle by acknowledging the notice. It is not an inmate's jail PIN and should not be shared. Email registration does not require a PIN under the official Illinois card. Illinois VINE help is available at 866-566-8439 at all times, with live language support; relay users are directed to 7-1-1.
Registration information is confidential. IDOC Victim Services can assist at 877-776-0755, but it cannot view the information entered in VINE. Save enough details to manage the registration later without placing private contact information in a public record request.
Greene County VINE Notification Layer
Greene County's official sheriff page links to statewide VINE but does not publish a local custody search or release list. That makes VINE the practical notification layer for a named person. It can bridge the gap between a booking-system event and a user's need for prompt notice.
The exact release record still comes from the sheriff or other originating agency. Ask the Greene County Sheriff's Office for a person-specific booking and release record when the release time, authority, type, or receiving agency matters. A court docket can clarify the order behind a pretrial release. IDOC owns state-prison and parole records. VINE does not merge those source files into one certified history.

Greene County's direct official link matters because search results for other Greene Counties can lead to the wrong sheriff, app, or jail roster. Verify the Illinois county domain, Carrollton location, and reporting agency each time.
Greene County PRB Notifications
The Illinois Prisoner Review Board has a separate Victim and Witness Services process for state post-conviction matters. Qualified registrants can request notice of events such as release on parole or MSR, electronic detention, work release, transfer, furlough, escape and apprehension, death, hearing dates, and discharge orders. A recent photograph can also be requested upon a qualifying felony release.
Use the PRB Victim and Witness Services route or its registration form, or call 800-801-9110. This is not the same account as VINELink. It serves a narrower state post-conviction process and should not be substituted for a Greene County jail release record.
Note: Registering with Illinois VINE does not automatically register a person for the separate Prisoner Review Board notification process.
Confirm Greene County VINE Results
A missing record is not proof of discharge. Data can lag, a person may be held by a nonparticipating source, or the searched identity may not match the source record. Likewise, a release alert does not prove return to the community. Transfer to IDOC, another county, DHS, federal custody, or immigration custody can follow a Greene County jail event.
Confirm county custody with the Greene Sheriff and the underlying order with the Circuit Clerk or Judici. Confirm state incarceration, parole, and projected discharge through IDOC. VINE also differs from the Illinois State Police offender registries. A registry can show only a person with an active legal registration duty and is not a general released-inmate database. If the portal shows stale information, note the reporting agency and the last displayed event before calling. Ask whether the person is still held, was released to the community, or was transferred. A focused question is easier for an agency to answer and avoids treating a portal delay as a new custody event. For a lasting document, request the source release or transfer record rather than a screenshot of the VINE display.
